Don’t Scare Away BuyersArticle by Cari PilonOctober is a great month to sell your home. The fall colors make a beautiful backdrop for any home. When selling your home preparing the inside of your home is extremely important. But don’t forget that the outside of your home is what a potential buyer will see first. Fall is a rough month, just after you have finished raking up all the leaves, a big wind will come and blow down a few thousand more. Think about hiring a neighborhood kid to help keep up with the yard work. All you have to do is follow up and make sure he is doing a good job. Make sure all your flowers that were so beautiful in the summer months are taken care of properly. Nothing is more unattractive than dead flowers. Invest in some pre-potted Fall Mums in bright yellow to place on the front porch or to flank the sides of the garage to add a dash of color. Don’t scare away buyers with too many Halloween decorations. This year be sure to use tasteful, friendly decorations that welcome them into your home. Frankenstein and the skeleton can come over to visit next year at your new home. Also, make sure that any decorations that are on your front porch don’t distract from the beauty of your home or obstruct anyone’s path. Give your visitors a special treat when showing your home. Place out a small basket of candy in your entryway that the potential buyers will be able to enjoy. When they leave, they will have a good feeling about your house that will stay with them. October can be a muddy month too. Have a welcome mat that, while attractive, will provide a place for them to wipe their feet before entering your home. Don’t be afraid to leave a note asking that viewers remove their shoes, they will respect the fact that you are conscientious about keeping the home clean. Besides, you just had those carpets cleaned! Always remember that a properly prepared home will not only sell faster, but also command a higher asking price. Studies have proven this. Your home, presented better than the home down the street, will be remembered fondly. The others will not. Keep this in mind when you prepare your home to sell this month.
